Malala Opens School for 18th Birthday

For her 18th birthday, young, activist Malala Yousafzai, opened a school for Syrian refugee girls in Lebanon. The school was designed to admit approximately 200 girls, ages 14-18, and the expenses are covered by the Malala Fund.

Gul Makai was Malala's pseudonym when she was blogging for BBC in 2009.  Malala used this name so she could speak about her life under the Taliban takeover, and their threats to deny girls an education, while keeping her identity a secret. However her identity was revealed by December of that same year.
